Adult and Rescue Dogs
|
Transitioning an older puppy or adult dog requires careful supervision for weeks to months, as these animals will not feel at home for a very long time, as they have become bonded to our home. They are real escape risks. Keep them on leash when outdoors at all times and be extra careful when opening doors to the outside. They will often do surprising and unexpected things in their attempt to go home. They may seem very scared at first, but eventually they all come around and become loving and happy pets. This will take time, however, so be realistic in your expectations of their behavior and allow the time that is truly needed for them to become comfortable in your home.
New owners of older puppies or adult dogs that they receive from Picket Fence Kennel must remember these important things:
1. None of our dogs has EVER been abused. If they appear scared, shy, timid to be touched or display any other act of fear, it is ONLY because they are not used to their new surroundings and you and do not know what to expect next.
2. Adults are crate trained and are used to eliminating outside. They are usually very easy to housetrain. Use common sense and be fair, firm and consistent in your praise and training. NEVER strike your dog for eliminating in the house.
3. We will gladly take any of these dogs back for any reason. There will be NO refund given and shipping costs, if any, will be paid by the owner and not Picket Fence Kennels.
4. While these dogs do not come with a health guarantee, you can expect your new companion to live to be 12-15 years of age.
5. When you accept an older puppy or adult from Picket Fence Kennel, it is expected that you will provide all necessary and appropriate shelter, food, water, exercise and care and veterinary services that are needed. |
